Principle

 The combustion of upholstered furniture is evaluated in presence of or without flame and/or glow. This gives an indication of the reaction to fire of furniture exposed to a small ignition source.

Test method

  A test assembly containing the fabric to be tested is made. The burner is placed along the joint of the seat and back of the test chair. A flame is applied to it 3 times for a certain time, first 20s, then 80s and finally 140s. Combustion, flaming and glowing are observed.

Result

The tested material is categorized class 1 to 3:                

Positive result after 20s        à            class 3               

Positive result after 80s        à            class 2               

Positive result after 140s      à            class 1
