Evaluating equivalence of curtains and drapes for contract use in Austria
Due to the necessity of harmonising the classification systems specified in ÖNORM EN 13773 and in ÖNORM B3820, the national standard cited below is now a prefix of EN 13773. This standard is presented as an aid in determining which category a curtain or drape may be assigned to, which has been classified according to Austrian standards, or vice versa.
National Standard
Based on prevailing guidelines for classifying the burning behaviour of curtains as specified in PRENORM ÖNORM B 3820 "Burning behaviour of curtains", the comparison scheme listed below has been proposed. The aim is to enable comparisons between the prevailing ÖNORM system and the new European Standard thus harmonising the classification of burning behaviour of curtains.

The scheme makes it possible to translate any classification specified in one of the prevailing standards into the other system. To meet this need, the Austrian Textile Research Institute (ÖTI) publishes an equivalence report, which allows translation from one system into the other by taking into account all relevant variables.
Da zwischen dem Klassifizierungssystem der ÖNORM EN 13773 und der ÖNORM B3820 eine Harmonisierung notwendig ist, wurde der ÖNORM EN 13773 folgendes nationale Vorwort vorangestellt, welches als Hilfestellung zu verstehen ist und zeigen sollen, in welche europäische Klasse ein Vorhang order eine Gardine fallen kann, die gemäß österreichischen Normen eingestuft wurde und umgekehrt.

Unter Zugrundelegung der bisherigen Einstufungsrichtlinien für das Brandverhalten von Vorhängen gemäß VORNORM ÖNORM B 3820 „Brandverhalten von Vorhängen" wird, um einen Vergleich zwischen dem bisherigen ÖNORM-System und dem neuen System der vorliegenden Europäischen Norm zu haben, zur Harmonisierung der Klassifizierung des Brennverhaltens von Vorhängen folgender Vergleich vorgeschlagen:

Dadurch besteht die Möglichkeit, von beiden Systemen gegenseitig eine Klassifizierungsübersetzung durchzuführen, welche in der vorliegenden Norm festgelegt ist. Da bei der Harmonisierung der Einstufung mehrere Prüfkomponenten zu berücksichtigen sind, ist ein direkter Einstufungsvergleich nicht immer möglich. Aus diesem Grund stellt das Österreichische Textilforschungsinstitut einen Äquivalenzbericht aus der, unter Berücksichtigung aller Einflussgrößen, von einem System in das andere übersetzt.
