Principle

An assembly of upholstered materials is subjected to a burning cigarette to examine its burning behaviour.

Test method

A chair consisting is composed of the material to be tested. A cigarette is lighted and put on the chair along the joint between seat and back. The cigarette burns its whole length.

Result

If progressive smouldering or flaming is not observed within 1h after application of the cigarette and there is no smouldering of the internal material, the tested fabric passes the test.
