Principle:

An assembly of upholstery materials is subjected to 2 ignition sources: a smouldering cigarette and a flaming source equivalent to a burning match.

Test method

A test assembly containing the fabric to be tested is made.

  • A smouldering cigarette is placed along the joint of seat and back. Any evidence of progressive smouldering and flaming is observed within a period of 1h of the placement of the rig.
  • A burner is placed along the joint of seat and back for 20s. Any evidence of progressive smouldering and flaming is observed.

Result

The fabric passes the test if there is no evidence of progressive smouldering or flaming observed in any of the cases.
