Principle |
NF P 92 – 503 (Electrical burner test) The flame of an electric burner is applied to a test sample. This results to a classification of M1 to M4. NF P 92 – 504 (Rate of flame spread test, complementary to the electric burner) This method is applied to fabrics that show an unusual behaviour during the electrical burner test. After flame, non-propagation of the flame and burning or not-burning droplets are observed. NFP 92-505 (Dripping test, also complementary to the electrical burner) The behaviour of possible droplets produced by applying a radiator to a specimen of the fabric to be tested is recorded. |

Test method |
NF P 92 – 503 (Electrical burner test) A specimen in placed in a specimen holder at 30° above a radiator which gives out heat. A small butane flame is applied directly to the fabric surface. The following aspects are recorded: - duration of the flame - production of burning droplets - length/width of the damaged specimen NF P 92 – 504 (Rate of flame spread test, complementary to the electric burner)A flame is held against a vertically positioned sample. The after flame time is recorded. The flame spread is calculated by determining the time for the flame to spread between two reference marks. The production of burning droplets is also noted. NFP 92-505 (Dripping test, also complementary to the electrical burner) A sample is placed on a grid under the radiator. A cotton wool pad is placed below it to collect possible droplets. Heat is applied from the radiator. Ignition of the wool pad is recorded. |
